Apple is testing an extreme Mac Pro with an ultra-powerful in-house chip

Apple is continuing the transition of its computer lines to in-house Apple Silicon chips. And we know thanks to Mark Gurman’s latest newsletter that the firm is preparing the launch of several new versions of MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and especially that of the long-awaited Mac Pro with Apple Silicon chip.

Mark Gurman is the go-to tech reporter for the business daily Bloomberg – his predictions and analysis are fed with insights he gets first-hand, which generally makes his predictions pretty reliable. However, he claims to have information on several computers being tested in the very secret R&D laboratories of the firm.

The Mac Pro Apple Silicon data sheet promises to be particularly muscular

The Apple Mx version of the Mac Pro will remain intended for image professionals, 3D designers, film studios, post-production, AI researchers, or musicians. but its technical sheet should reach a level never before seen in the range of Apple computers. Here is what the analyst says exactly:

“My belief is that the Mac Pro will be offered with chips featuring 24 or 48 CPU cores and 76 or 152 graphics cores, all with up to 256 GB of shared RAM. In fact, I can even share with you one of the configurations of the Mac Pro currently being tested by Apple: 24 CPU cores (16 performance cores 8 efficiency cores), 76 graphics cores and 192 GB of RAM. This particular machine runs macOS Ventura 13.3. Ventura 13.0, the new version of the new macOS, is launched [ce lundi 24 octobre 2022, ndlr]”reports Mark Gurman.

No info on the price of these machines which are traditionally the most expensive in the range of Apple computers. But Apple should still take its time before announcing the Mac Pro: Mark Gurman thinks the machine will not be unveiled before 2023. But the journalist also has information on several Mac updates of the current lineup with even more chips. powerful.

This would include MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″ with Apple Silicon M2 Pro and M2 Max chips: “The M2 Max will be equipped with 12 CPU cores – including 8 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores – and 38 graphics cores. All this always with up to 64 GB of RAM. These options will be available on both screen sizes”. A priori, there will be no question of changing the design.

The devices should therefore always offer a screen with a notch (but perhaps this one will finally be equipped with a set of True Depth sensors for Face ID facial recognition? Answer soon…). Finally there would also be a new Mac mini with M2 chips. The spec sheet would be similar to what Apple offers on the 13″ MacBook Pro M2 and MacBook Air M2 unveiled in June.
