Do older employees feel overwhelmed by technology? That’s the question ConsumerAffairs asked itself in a survey. To better understand, the experts interviewed 1,000 people aged 45 and over in the United States.
Telecommuting is sometimes a problem for older employees
A first bitter observation emerges. Thus 86% of respondents to this survey believe that they are discriminated against in their workplace due to technological developments. It should be noted that the latter evolve precisely in sectors related to new technologies. Across all occupations, this figure drops slightly, but remains relatively high at 73%.
This problem becomes glaring in a world where remote work is increasingly practiced. In fact, 75% of people surveyed by ConsumerAffairs believe that technology is a real obstacle to working from home. This subject is to be taken into account for companies that will have to offer training and/or assistance to their employees. Especially since it would be a shame to deprive yourself of the talent of experienced employees just because they do not master a technological evolution.
Outside the world of work, this survey also brings us some interesting facts. Thus, 96% of older respondents say they are overwhelmed by technology. And for 26% of them, this happens several times a week.
This result should alert the public authorities, while the administration is increasingly being deployed in a digital version. Many French people feel that they have been wronged by this trend, and on the contrary are calling for a stronger human presence to help them in their efforts.
Computer hardware enrages the youngest employees
It is worth remembering that technology is also sometimes singled out by younger workers, but not for the same reasons. We recently told you about the fact that many French people believe that the computer equipment used in the context of their professional tasks is obsolete.
It is often the age of the computers that is denounced, and 37% of respondents say they work on machines that are more than 4 years old, while 33% have devices that are between 3 and 4 years old.
This problem is clearly not to be taken lightly by their employers. Indeed, according to a global study carried out by the research firm Vanson Bourne for Nexthink, a bad digital experience at work can be a valid reason for resignation for employees, and this is all the more true for the younger generations. under 25 years old.
