These new features are coming to your iPhone in December

Apple recently released iOS 16.1 update. In addition to including quite a few fixes for security vulnerabilities discovered in the operating system, this update also includes quite a few interesting new features for the user, such as live activities.

But while iOS 16.1 is rolling out, the Cupertino company is already preparing the next update: iOS 16.2. According to a recent article by Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg, Apple would target a release of this update in December.

In the meantime, it is already possible to know the new features that will land on iOS 16.2, since the new version is already tested in beta.

A new sleep widget

With iOS 16, Apple is betting a lot on customizing the home screen and the lock screen. And the iOS 16.2 update brings an interesting novelty to the interface: the possibility of placing a new sleep widget on the lock screen.

The new widget, for the new iOS 16 lock screen, uses data from Apple’s Health app, which can leverage data from Apple Watches and other compatible products for sleep tracking.

A new medication widget

Apple relies heavily on the health benefits of its products. And among those health functions is medication tracking and management.

According to 9to5Mac, code elements suggest that the firm could develop a widget allowing quick access to this functionality of the iPhone for the lock and/or home screen on iOS 16.2.

New for live activities

As mentioned above, live activities, which display information from apps installed on the iPhone, are among the new features that Apple introduced with iOS 16.1. And on iOS 16.2, the firm intends to improve this functionality.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is offering an option that will allow developers to update the information displayed by Live Activities more frequently. Shortening the update interval will display more real-time info. But the downside is that it will have an impact on autonomy.

In any case, these short intervals should be better suited for tracking flights, deliveries, or match scores.

What’s new for the iPad?

Apple has not forgotten the iPad, since it is also preparing the iPadOS 16.2 update. And among the novelties, there would be the “reintroduction” of support for external screens, according to our colleagues at MacRumours. Apple should also take advantage of the iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 updates to launch its new Freeform app, a kind of virtual whiteboard on which users can collaborate remotely.

iOS 16.3 in February?

While Apple has just started beta testing of iOS 16.2, the media are also talking about iOS 16.3. According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to release iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3 and macOS Ventura 13.3 updates in February or March.

And the firm would plan to associate the release of these updates with the release of its next Macs based on the M2 chip.
