Free Mobile connects the good news. In its latest quarterly results, the operator’s parent company, Iliad, details the excellent results of its French mobile branch, but also of its Italian branch and of the new Iliad entity in Poland, the result of a merger-acquisition between UPC and Play.
The group describes Free’s commercial performance in the third quarter of 2022 as the “prettiest in the last 10 years”. Iliad notably announces “+184,000 net new mobile subscribers (including 277,000 net new 4G/5G subscribers)”. A figure that pales in comparison to Iliad Italia’s results for the quarter.
Free Mobile wraps up an excellent quarter in customer recruitment
The Italian branch has indeed announced 261,000 new mobile subscribers, which makes it the operator in the country which has garnered the most subscribers over the past three months. But there is also Poland, where the Iliad group has been establishing itself for several years. The Polish branch of the group stems from the takeover of the operator Play.
Then the acquisition-merger of UPC, a mobile operator that previously belonged to Liberty Group. The merger has been effective since April 1, 2021, and since then Iliad has seen its recruitment of subscribers in the country accelerate. In the 3rd quarter Iliad thus recruited 106,000 new customers.
Iliad is also announcing good figures for landlines. 78,000 new customers joined the ISP’s free xDSL / Fiber offers in France in the third quarter of 2022. In Poland, Iliad attracted 54,000 new fixed internet subscribers. As for Italy, the group had 86,000 customers at the end of September – and hopes that the increase in the number of homes connected to fiber will allow it to score points in the following quarters.
“The period is full of contrasts. We have perhaps never experienced such good commercial results but also such an uncertain macro-economic context. The next few months call for caution even if our fundamentals remain solid. We will continue to invest in our networks and recruit new talent. Iliad is in working order, with the constant concern to improve ourselves, to always do better, for ourselves, and for our subscribers”explains Thomas Reynaud, CEO of the Iliad group in a press release.
More generally, Iliad reports pro-format organic revenue growth of 8.1% – and sales growth of 7.5% in France, 15.0% in Italy and 2.5% in Poland. Current operating income before taking into account depreciation (or depreciation) of tangible and intangible fixed assets, and the impact of expenses related to compensation in the form of stock options/shares (EBITDAaL) is growing organically pro forma by 8.5% to 2.42 billion euros for the first 9 months of 2022.
