The best Android smartphones of 2023 will use these processors

As the end of the year approaches, the media is starting to pay attention to the new tech products of 2023. And when it comes to smartphones, we already know which processors will be used by Android flagships next year.

Indeed, before the release of smartphones, the essential components are made available to manufacturers. Two weeks ago, the Taiwanese company Mediatek presented its high-end processor Dimensity 9200, intended to equip the next flagships.

While this company had already made a strong impression with its previous processors, today it can boast of offering the first SoC integrating Arm’s Cortex X3, which can operate at a speed of 3 GHz.

The Dimensity 9200 also takes advantage of Arm’s Immortalis-G715 GPU, to provide hardware ray tracing functionality for gaming. Finally, Mediatek can also boast of having formalized the first SoC supporting Wifi 7 technology.

In turn, Qualcomm presents its chip for the flagships of 2023

For its part, the American Qualcomm has also just presented its counter-offensive: the Snapdragon 8 gen 2. And the least we can say is that Qualcomm has decided to go all out, whether in terms of CPU, GPU or power efficiency performance.

Indeed, according to the manufacturer, the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 has a 35% faster CPU, while improving energy efficiency by 40%. For gamers, Qualcomm offers a GPU whose performance has been improved by 25%, and whose energy efficiency is improved by 45%.

In essence, Android smartphone makers are going to give the iPhone a hard time. And that’s not all. Indeed, like the new high-end processor from Mediatek, the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 also has ray tracing.

Demonstration in support, Qualcomm explains that ray tracing, powered by hardware, will “it improves overall visual quality and immersion by adding soft ray-traced shadows with realistic penumbra, translucency, self-shading and other effects.”

In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 is ready to support the next evolution of Wifi, Wifi 7. And on the 5G side, it benefits from new improvements thanks to artificial intelligence, through the Snapdragon modem X70.

A significant improvement in AI and energy efficiency

Moreover, for artificial intelligence, Qualcomm indicates that its new product can manage performance peaks 4.35 times higher, while offering an improvement in energy efficiency of up to 60%.

The improvement of artificial intelligence on the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 will also have a significant impact on the quality of the photos. Indeed, Qualcomm offers a new function called “real-time semantic segmentation”. What is it about ?

“[…] every aspect of your photo or video frame is recognizable – faces, hair, clothes, backgrounds – and they are individually optimized so that every detail is refined – before you are ready to press the shutter button”says Qualcomm.

Regarding the screens, Qualcomm also explains that its processor will allow smartphone manufacturers to offer viewing in 8K, HDR, and at 60 frames per second.

In essence, Qualcomm continues to bet on AI and performance gains. But the clearest improvements relate to energy efficiency, which will allow future Android smartphones to have significant gains in autonomy.

Which brands will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2?

ASUS Republic of Gamers, HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMAGIC, Redmi, SHARP, Sony Corporation, vivo, Xiaomi, XINGJI/MEIZU, and ZTE have already announced that they will use this new processor. Samsung hasn’t commented, but we’re pretty sure it’ll be using the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 too.

The first models using this new component will be unveiled this year.
