On December 5, 2022, Toyota will present in Europe all the details about its new Prius (2023). But in the meantime, the Japanese lifted the lid on its essential features during a simulcast event in Japan was Los Angeles.
In Europe, the Toyota Prius (2023) will still be available in a plug-in hybrid version and only with this engine. No electric therefore while almost all of the industry is moving towards a 100% electric catalog. This fifth generation is in fact distinguished by its completely revised design.
Finally an attractive Toyota Prius (2023)
Toyota has finally decided to thoroughly review the design of its Prius. Based on the GA-C platform, the Prius (2023) is 5 centimeters higher than the previous version. Shorter by 4.6 cm, it is also wider (2.2 cm) and has 19” tires for a longer wheelbase of 5 centimeters.
The battery and motor have been positioned to lower the center of gravity and thus ensure better road holding. Always all rounded, the Prius (2023) is more attractive than previous models. More assertive, it also seems more aerodynamic. The designers say they went to the basics and focused on lines that allow for optimal airflow.
Inside, Toyota has also redesigned the entire cabin. The dashboard is divided into three parts. In the center, a horizontal floating touch screen overlooks the set of on-board controls, a second 7” screen is positioned above the steering wheel so that the driver has essential information at all times. The passenger side is devoid of any instruments. Only a light strip illuminates the dashboard and changes color depending on the situations detected by Toyota Safety Sense, the manufacturer’s safety device.
Solar-powered plug-in hybrid
In Europe, the Prius (2023) will therefore only be available in a plug-in hybrid version. Under the hood, a 148 horsepower 2.0 petrol engine is paired with a 160 horsepower electric motor. The total power reaches 223 horsepower.
The 13.6 kWh battery allows 100% electric driving, but Toyota has not yet communicated a theoretical autonomy. However, the manufacturer ensures that it is doubled compared to the previous model. Recharging can be done conventionally but also through photovoltaic cells directly integrated into the roof.
