This is how the director of this feature film, James Mangold, answered questions from the American magazine Empire. He explained in particular that the scenario of the film was modified to take into account the age of Harrison Ford, who is now 80 years old. The filmmaker explains as follows:
It became very important to me to figure out how to make this sequel a film about a hero in the twilight of his life. The questions I raised about Indy’s age were not adequately addressed in the material developed at the time. There were jokes about the “old people”, but the screenplay itself didn’t talk about them.
