Bambi will (finally) settle his accounts in a horror film
Baby is an unbeatable classic from the Disney stable. Released in 1942, the animated film of the firm of Mickey accompanied (and made cry) many children. Disney is determined to dust off this feature film since the studios are working on a live-action Baby. We’re getting used to it since many Disney movies from our childhood, like Cinderella, Pinocchio or The Lion King, have been entitled to it in recent years. In parallel, a horror film dedicated to our favorite fawn is in the cards. And nothing prepares us for that…
Tremble before Bambi
Before being the cartoon signed Disney that we know well, Baby is a children’s novel written by Felix Salten in 1923. This initiatory story straight from Austria is undeniably cute. But the adorable side of Baby will be turned upside down very soon… The fault of ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions, which have more than one horror film to their credit.
Earlier this year, the two studios had already tackled our childhood memories by reimagining the story of Winnie the Pooh and his friends. A landmark trip to the bloodthirsty forest after Christopher Robin abandons them… This time, it looks like they’re going after another beloved childhood hero, Bambi. Since 2015, the character created by Felix Salten is in the public domain. Inevitably, this opens the door to some oddities of all kinds.
In the original story of both the novel and the Disney animated film, Bambi’s mother is killed by hunters. The young fawn then experiences this ordeal as a way to grow and mature. In the rewrite envisaged by producer Scott Jeffrey, this will not be the case.
Thus, in this live-action titled Bambi: The Reckoningwhich can be translated as Bambi: The settling of accounts, the fawn is not going to let the despicable murder of its mother pass. We can expect a bloody revenge. “Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wild. Prepare for a rabid Bambi (literally)” explained Scott Jeffrey. It promises…
From what little we know, this rather special feature film will be inspired by the Ritual, the Netflix movie. It remains to be seen if Bambi: The Reckoning will be able to convince or if it will fall into the category of “horror dwarfs” that we will watch to have a good slice of laughter.
