3 good reasons to watch Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays
It’s Christmas before time on Disney+. Since last Friday, the streaming platform has indeed been offering Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays. The fine team is therefore back, led by the duo Mantis and Drax in great shape.
All join together to give Star-Lord a good time, still very touched by the disappearance of Gamora. It will be understood, this is only a pretext for a brief (but enjoyable) adventure of our heroes. Here are 3 good reasons to watch this short film.

Guardians of the Galaxy: effective humor
This is the great strength of this Christmas film directed by James Gunn: its humor. Its English title makes no secret of its intentions, it is a parody of the famous Star Wars Holiday Special. This TV movie is a painful memory for all Star Wars fans. It was then a question of proposing a special episode to the fans of Star Wars, except that it is enough to watch five minutes to understand that it quickly became very embarrassing for the cast and the saga as a whole.
James Gunn therefore takes up the idea in his own way, but the comparison stops there. The filmmaker masters his work without falling too far into the nonsense of certain Christmas films. We find the wacky and quirky style of the first two parts of Guardians of the Galaxy.
We also appreciate the comic duo installed between Drax and Mantis. And what about Kevin Bacon’s performance in his own role? Excellent, the actor steals the show from the rest of the cast. We won’t say more so as not to spoil the surprise for you, but the latter seems to have had a lot of fun on the set.
A Marvel short film that keeps its promises
Beyond the jokes specific to the genre, James Gunn basically offers a tender vision of Christmas. The story is short but it has a beginning, an end and meaning. Something that tends to get lost lately in MCU movies. The director also never pours into cynicism, while some series from the Disney studio indulge in it a little too much this year. One thinks in particular of these clumsy monologues of she hulk which traumatized many spectators.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays is typical of those films that have several levels of reading, and that we can watch as a family. Kids will enjoy the raw adventure and that sweet holiday vibe, while adults will spot some squeaky Hollywood reviews.
An amazing soundtrack
As in his previous films, James Gunn treats us to some excellent songs, while Kevin Bacon performs a remarkable musical performance. The spirit of Christmas is here again preserved without giving up a real shift in the story.
The short film is nonetheless attached to the MCU and it prepares us for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 which will be released on May 3, 2023. In this special Christmas episode, we can already discover Cosmo, a Russian astronaut dog who talks, while Peter Quill is still in detention and struggling to recover from this personal drama. Appointment is already made in a few months to discover the rest.
