Google has just launched the Chrome 108 update to its browser. And among the hidden novelties of this new version, there is the energy saver.
To take advantage of it, you must first ensure that you are (at least) on version 108 of Google Chrome. It could not be easier. Open the Chrome menu > Help > About Google Chrome.
In the About section, you’ll see info about the version of Chrome you’re using. And you can launch the update, if necessary, then restart the browser.

- You need to activate the feature, if you haven’t yet
- And you can choose when the energy saving starts: either when you are at 20% battery, or as soon as your PC is unplugged
What does this feature do? “To extend your device’s battery life, Chrome reduces the frequency of capturing images and the number of background tasks. If Power Saver is enabled, this action is automatic when your device is unplugged, or when it is unplugged and your battery is low,” Google says.
He adds that this mode can be useful if you need maximum range during a long journey. However, the mode can affect performance when playing videos, or playing games.
