Difficult to succeed Thanos, the great villain who kept Marvel fans spellbound for years. But the studio has decided, it is Kang the Conqueror, played by actor Jonathan Majors, who will be the great enemy of superheroes in the years to come.
Playing Kang the Conqueror ‘is a great chance’
Already seen in the series Lokithe latter will make his debut on the occasion of the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which will be released on February 15, 2023 in France. The promotional campaign has already begun for Jonathan Majors who was recently interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter.
The enthusiasm of the actor is really nice to see. He is particularly delighted with the characteristics of his character, which allows him to express himself in several registers:
Kang lives in his own world in the MCU. No spoilers here, but there are so many variations. (…) And the saga experts and decision-makers are really trying to use intellectual property in the best possible way. It’s a great chance that they chose me to do it.
He adds : “And yes, six years after Yale and ten years after the North Carolina School of the Arts, my first acting school, that’s what I always dreamed of as an actor. Kang is a career in itself. It’s either the cake itself or the icing on the cake, I don’t know. But playing multiple versions of the same character is just beautiful. It’s a new experience every time. »
Recently, Brian Gay, the head of the film’s creation Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also spoke about the new star of Marvel: “Jonathan is a phenomenal actor who comes prepared and thoughtful. (…) I can’t wait for everyone to see the incredible work he has done. I think he has an amazing presence in the MCU. And when he comes on stage, you know Kang is there. He gives that embodiment and gravitas that are so essential to this character. »
Kevin Feige is enthusiastic
For his part, the boss of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, is full of praise for this newcomer: “It’s really impressive what Jonathan Majors can do. And all the different versions of Kang that we’re going to see him do. (…) What I like is that he is totally different from Thanos. »
We will see over time if Kang the Conqueror is a strong enough character to replace Thanos in the hearts of MCU fans. A first part of the answer will be provided to us next February.
