Unemployed Spielberg? This Google AI writes movie scripts
Create an artificial intelligence capable of writing screenplays for films or plays on its own. This is the mission given to the DeepMind company, owned by Google. This writing tool, which is called Dramatron, can help screenwriters who lack inspiration.
Google’s AI, welcome support for screenwriters
Introducing Dramatron, a new tool for writers to co-write theater and film scripts with a language model. 🎭
Dramatron can interactively co-create new stories complete with title, characters, location descriptions and dialogue.

Thus, the system is for example capable of generating the main features of a story, descriptions of places and scenes, or even of creating characters. Human authors can pick up this set and perfect it as they see fit. While ChatGPT is all the rage right now, advanced language models are definitely in vogue.
DeepMind also explains: “Linguistic models are attracting more and more interest from authors. However, they have limited utility for creative writing of long formats, as they lack semantic consistency over time..
And the Google company to add: “We overcome this limitation by applying the language models hierarchically, in a system we call Dramatron. By building structural context through prompt chaining, Dramatron can generate cohesive scripts and scenarios, complete with title, characters, story highlights, location descriptions, and dialogue. »
The results are generally conclusive, and the authors who have had the chance to test this tool believe that it could be useful, not for writing a scenario in its entirety, but for building a coherent world and guiding them in the creation process.
Remember that this is far from the first time that artificial intelligence has been used in the world of the seventh art. In 2019, we were already telling you about these tools that allow production companies to anticipate the results of a film at the box office. These systems have limits because they also risk hampering the studios’ creativity and capacity for innovation.
More recently, we were talking about an AI developed by Disney. Baptized FRAN as “face re-aging network”, this system is capable of aging or rejuvenating an actor on screen.
DeepMind is interested in many sectors
Finally, note that DeepMind is not at its first attempt and is working on artificial intelligence applications in many fields. We have already discussed on lemon squeezer, the collaboration between the Google company and the football club of Liverpool. The technology is used in particular to predict the risk of injury, but also to provide certain tactical advice to the technical staff.
