Netflix and HBO Max shine at the Golden Globes 2023, but who will win?
The famous Hollywood Foreign Press Association has just unveiled the list of nominees for the 2023 edition of the Golden Globes. Since 1944, alongside the famous Oscars, the Golden Globes ceremony has rewarded the best works of American cinema and television. In 2022, the HFPA has a total of 200 members in its voting body.
Netflix and HBO Max kings of 2023 Golden Globe nominations
Thus, on the side of Netflix, the series The Crown has no less than four nominations, including Best Drama Series, Best Television Actress, without forgetting Elizabeth Debicy and Jonathan Pryce in supporting roles. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is also nominated in four categories, including Best Actor for Evan Peters. Ozark is also entitled to three nominations, not to mention Inventing Anna and Wednesday, with one nomination each.
Netflix films are also at the party, with Glass Onion: a story at loggerheads, but also Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, not to mention Blonde, White Noise and The Good Nurse. As for the best film of the year, are named Avatar 2: The Way of the Water, the biopic Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tar and finally Top Gun Maverick.
As far as HBO Max goes, the 2023 Golden Globes are looking pretty good, with four nominations for The White Lotus. The Hacks and House of Dragon series are also entitled to three nominations each. Apple TV+ and Disney+ are not left behind, thanks in particular to Black Bird, without forgetting Andor and Alerte Rouge. Note that Hulu can also puff out your chest, thanks to the series Pam & Tommy, which garnered 4 nominations, but also Only Murders in the Building, The Dropout and Under the Banner of Heaven.
As with every edition, while some nominations were eagerly awaited, there are also some major absentees. For example, Amazon’s recent hit series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, didn’t receive a single nomination. Surprising… In another register, perhaps because of Will Smith’s slightly tarnished reputation, the film Emancipation available on Apple TV+ was also not retained by the HFPA.
The 80th Golden Globes 2023 ceremony will take place on January 10, and will be hosted by American actor and comedian Jerrod Carmichael. In 2020, it was the British Ricky Gervais who presented the ceremony, and many still remember the scathing humor of the creator of the After Life series.
