Henry Cavill will no longer play Superman, his moving message to fans
The news should disappoint more than one. Henry Cavill, who played Superman since 2013 and the movie man of steel, will no longer play the superhero at DC Studios. The actor himself formalized the news in a message posted on his Instagram account.
“I will not return to the role of Superman”
He explains thus: “I just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news for everyone. I will not return as Superman. After the studio asked me to announce my return in October, before they were hired, that decision isn’t easy to hear, but that’s life. Cast succession is something that happens. I respect that. »
The news is all the harder to take for the star as he appears in the last black adam in a cameo that seems to endorse his big DC comeback. However, the new management of the studio, embodied by James Gunn and Peter Safran, has decided on a new cast to embody this emblematic character.
Henry Cavill nevertheless remains a good player and continues: “James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all those involved in this new project the best of luck and the happiest of fortunes. »
James Gunn did not fail to comment on this decision on Twitter, as he has become accustomed to. He indicates : “In the initial stages, our story will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character won’t be played by Henry Cavill. »
James Gunn shakes up the DCEU
Recently, the filmmaker explained: “The opportunity to make DC as great as it can be and should be – that’s why I’m doing this job because I know Peter and I can do it. We’ve spent the last two days with a group of some of the best thinkers in the business, the best writers in the business, starting to lay out this eight to 10 year plan of what it’s going to look like in cinema, in series, and in animation, our universe. »
In his previous statements, the new boss of DC studios also insisted enormously on the importance he attached to the characters and the story, without mentioning the actors. So we could see these kinds of initiatives happening again in the future, and the DC Cinematic Universe as we know it is set to be significantly renewed.
