Airbus certifies the A321 XLR, Boom unveils its supersonic engine
In the summary this week a lot of aviation, but also space and series! Airbus continues the certification of its A321 XLR with a 13-hour non-stop tour of Europe, Boom Supersonic unveils the reactor of its Concorde replacement, mission accomplished for Artemis 1 and finally four unnoticed series to watch urgently.
The Airbus A321 XLR succeeds in a huge non-stop tour of Europe for 13 hours
The Flightradar24 twitter account reveals in a tweet the strange route of a plane that took off from Toulouse, before landing in Toulouse at the end of a huge loop of 8,700 km covered in 1:13 p.m. An amusing detail immediately sells the wick: the course traces the letters XLR off the French Atlantic coast. Airbus is in fact continuing with the certification stages of its future long-haul A321 XLR, which should officially enter service in 2024. These 13 flight hours attest in any case to the vast autonomy of the aircraft designed, among other things, to maximize fuel savings.
Boom Supersonic presents the reactor of its “Concorde”
While the aviation sector is generally betting on fuel savings and also, in the near future, the entry into the era of electric aviation, boom Supersonic wants to make the Concorde a success – or at all minus commercial supersonic aviation. After unveiling its first prototype Overture, Boom Supersonic today presents the characteristics of its in-house designed reactors, baptized Symphony… what hope for supersonic booms which compare… to Gustav Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony?
Mission accomplished for Artemis 1!
Since the publication of this article last Friday, the Orion capsule of the Artemis 1 mission has successfully landed off California, as initially planned, on Sunday December 12, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. (Paris, CET). Launched by a huge Launch Alliance SLS rocket on November 16, the capsule was put into orbit around the Moon on November 25, 2022, before initiating its return to Earth on December 1, 2022. The mission lasted a total of 25 days and a half, and officially marks the return of the Americans to the lunar conquest, 50 years after the moon landing of Gene Cernan and Harrison Sdhmitt from the Apollo 17 mission.
